John Brockhoff awarded PIA Life Fellowship

It was an honour to present John Brockhoff RPIA (Life Fellow) with a Life Fellowship during the 2026 PIA National Awards ceremony at Planning Congress last month, in front of a room filled with planning peers and colleagues from across the country.

John Brockhoff has made an exceptional and enduring contribution to the Planning Institute of Australia and the planning profession over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades. A highly respected policy leader, John has played a pivotal role in strengthening PIA’s influence, shaping major planning reforms, and championing the value of planning in the public interest.

Through his work at both state and national levels, he has elevated the quality and impact of policy advocacy, built strong cross-sector partnerships, and consistently positioned planning as central to creating more liveable, resilient and equitable communities.

Renowned for his intellectual rigour, collaborative approach and generosity in mentoring others, John has inspired generations of planners while helping to grow the profession’s voice and credibility. His legacy is one of lasting positive change, reflected in stronger policy frameworks, a more influential Institute, and a profession better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

Congratulations John!
